1. Responsible or answerable in law; legally obligated.
2. (Of a person) subject to or likely to incur (a fine, penalty, etc.). — aka legally liable.
3. Likely to do or say something or to behave in a particular way, especially because of a fault or natural tendency.
4. Likely to be affected by a particular kind of problem. [1]
1. Having legal responsibility; responsible; accountable; answerable; obligated; USAGE: “The law holds people liable for breach of contract.”
2. Likely to; subject to; susceptible to. USAGE: “The hurricane is liable to hit at any moment.” Note that “liable“ is not “libel.” [2]
