Application for Leave to Appeal:

(1882) A motion asking an appellate court to hear a party’s appeal from a judgment when the party has no appeal by right or when the party’s time limit for an appeal by right has expired. The reviewing court has discretion whether to grant or reject such a motion.”

Leave to Appeal:

(16c.) Permission asked for or granted to file for review in an appellate court.”
