1. The joining of consecutive periods of possession by different persons to treat the periods as one continuous period; especially, the adding of one’s own period of land possession to that of a prior possessor to establish continuous adverse possession for the statutory period. [1]
1. A doctrine which permits an adverse possessor to add his period of possession to that of a prior adverse possessor in order to establish a continuous possession for the period prescribed by statute for the ripening of adverse possession into title. Pagan v Grady, 101 NH 18, 131 AM 441. [2]

With respect to acquiring title to real property by adverse possession, a doctrine that permits a person who is in possession of the property to add her period of possession to that of a prior adverse possessor in order to establish continuous possession for the period required by the applicable statute.
