Hyperinjunction – a gag order that bars discussing the subject matter or the existence of the injunction itself, except to lawyers of the recipient’s council

hyperinjunction:
(2009)

1. English law. Slang. A superinjunction that expressly applies its bar on discussing the subject matter or even the injunction’s existence to journalists, Members of Parliament, and lawyers except for the recipient’s council. * The first known hyperinjunction was issued in 2006.  See GAG ORDER (1).

gag order:
(1952)

1. A judge’s order directing parties, attorneys, witnesses, or journalists to refrain from publicly discussing the facts of the case.  *  When directed to the press, such an order is generally unconstitutional under the First Amendment. [1]
