The initial <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=5154\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pleading<\/a> that starts a <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=3912\">civil action<\/a> and states the basis for the court&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=2505\">jurisdiction<\/a>, the basis for the plaintiff&#8217;s claim, and the demand for relief. \u00a0In some states (cases), this <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=5154\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pleading<\/a> is called a petition.<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">[1]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"CENTER\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">1.
