\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u201cA suit in equity, under the procedure of the English Court\u00a0of Chancery, which was generally adopted in the American States\u00a0prior to the code, is instituted by the plaintiff filing a bill of\u00a0compliant. \u00a0The plaintiff is usually called the complainant, in the\u00a0Federal courts the complainant or plaintiff indifferently. \u00a0The bill\u00a0is in substance a petition to the chancellor, or judge of the court of\u00a0equity, setting forth at large the grounds of the suit, & praying\u00a0the process of the court, its subpoena, to bring the defendant into\u00a0court & compel him to answer the plaintiff’s bill, &, also, for such\u00a0relief by decree or interlocutory remedy, by way of injunction,\u00a0etc., as the plaintiff supposes himself entitled to.<\/span>\u201d<\/strong> [3]<\/span><\/p>\n
