an unjustified, intentional infliction of harm on another, resulting in damages, by an act(s) that would otherwise be lawful.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negligent tort<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"> &#8211; committed by failure to observe the standard of care required by law under the circumstances.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">\u2014 aka<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"> <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>act of negligence<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><em>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/?page_id=12881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negligence<\/a><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; failure to exercise the standard of care that a reasonable person would have exercised in a similar situation.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/?page_id=14596\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reasonable man test<\/a><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; a hypothetical person used as a legal standard, especially to determine if someone acted with negligence.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=8024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">public tort<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2013 a minor breach of the law (i.e. a parking violation) that, although it carries a criminal punishment, is considered a civil offense rather than a criminal one because it is merely a prohibited act and not inherently reprehensible\u00a0conduct.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=8026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">quasi-tort<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> \u2013 when one who did not directly commit is liable, such as when an employer is held liable for a tort committed by an employee.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/?page_id=15159\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">vicarious liability<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; liability that a supervisory party (i.e. an employer or principal) bears for the actionable conduct of a subordinate or associate (i.e. an employee or agent).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/?page_id=15160\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">respondeat superior<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211;
