The term\u00a0<em>Iroquois<\/em>\u00a0is thought to be derived from a derogatory\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/aboutworldlanguages.com\/encyclopedia_761563023\/Algonquian.html\">Algonquian<\/a>\u00a0word which means \u2018rattle snakes\u2019.
