someone who is designated to receive something as a result of a legal arrangement or\u00a0instrument.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0There is more than one\u00a0<em>type\u00a0<\/em>of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7450\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fiduciary relationship<\/a>\u00a0between the federal government and tribes.\u00a0 There is a <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7517\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guardian-ward relationship<\/a>, <\/strong><strong>wherein the government acts as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7479\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guardian<\/a>\u00a0to each of the tribes, who are considered\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wards<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7479\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guardian<\/a><\/span> &#8211; someone who has the legal authority &amp; duty to care for another&#8217;s person or <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7427\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">property<\/a>,\u00a0especially because of the other&#8217;s infancy, incapacity, or disability.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ward<\/a><\/span> &#8211; a person, usually a minor, who is under a guardian\u2019s charge or protection.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Much as a parent owns and manages the estates of their children, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7479\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guardian<\/a>\u00a0owns and manages the estate of a <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ward<\/a>\u00a0so as to act in the child&#8217;s best interest.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In addition to serving the roles of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7474\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fiduciary<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7479\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guardian<\/a>, the federal government also serves as <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trustee<\/a>\u00a0within a <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7519\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">settlor-trustee-beneficiary relationship<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/\/?page_id=7500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trustee<\/a><\/span> &#8211;
