Pretrial Motions Pertaining to Discovery:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

(pretrial) motion to compel discovery<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u2013force the opponent to procure all evidence they plan to present during the proceedings.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

motion to suppress<\/a><\/span> – prohibit the\u00a0introduction of illegally obtained evidence at a criminal trial.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

omnibus motion<\/span><\/a>\u00a0–\u00a0 in criminal cases, a defense pretrial motion to suppress inadmissible evidence from being brought up during the trial.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

motion in limine<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0pretrial request that certain inadmissible\u00a0evidence not be referred to or offered at trial.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

motion to dismiss for failure to prosecute<\/span><\/a> – dismiss case if prosecution cannot proceed, as when a critical witness or crucial evidence is missing & speedy trial deadline has passed.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
