Motion in Limine<\/span>:
\n<\/strong>(“in lim-a-nee”)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/strong>(18c.) A pretrial request that certain inadmissible\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>evidence not be referred to or offered at trial.\u00a0 Typically, a party makes this motion when it believes that mere mention of the evidence during trial would be highly prejudicial &\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>could not be remedied by an instruction to disregard . If, after the motion is granted, the\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>opposing party mentions or attempts to offer the evidence in the jury\u2019s presence, a\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>mistrial may be ordered. A ruling on a motion in limine does not always preserve\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>evidentiary error for appellate purposes. To raise such an error on appeal, a party may\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>be required to formally object when the evidence is actually admitted or excluded during\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>trial.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
