It is an original remedial writ,\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">as old as the co mmon law itself. \u00a0The writ is so ancient that\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">forms of it are given in Glanville (Beames\u2019 Trans.) &#8230; , the first\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">book of English law, written in the year 1189. The origin of the\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">proceeding by prohibition was to secure the sovereign rights,\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">and preserve the public quiet. It was an emanative of the great\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">executive authority of the king, delegated to his courts, and\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">particularly to the king\u2019s bench.
