The requirement that the police knock at the door and announce their identity, authority, and purpose before entering a residence to execute an arrest<\/a> or search warrant<\/a>.<\/strong> \u2014 aka knock-and-notice rule<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. 1. The rule that a law enforcement officer may forcibly enter a house, whether to make an arrest<\/a> or conduct a search, only if she has first identified herself as an officer and stated her purpose, and has been refused admittance. <\/span><\/strong>[2]<\/span><\/p>\n

Notice:<\/span> The<\/span> no-knock search warrant<\/a> may in certain instances provide an exception to the knock-and-announce rule:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
