A 1970 federal statute designed to attack organized criminal activity and preserve marketplace integrity by investigating, controlling, and prosecuting persons who participate or conspire to participate in racketeering. 18 USCA \u00a7\u00a7 1961-1968.\u00a0 *\u00a0 The federal RICO statute applies only to activity involving interstate or foreign commerce.\u00a0 Many states have adopted similar statutes, sometimes called \u201clittle RICO\u201d acts.\u00a0 The federal and most state RICO acts provide for enforcement not only by criminal prosecution but also by civil lawsuit, in which the plaintiff can sue for <a href=\"https:\/\/reunitethestates.org\/?page_id=10918\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">treble damages<\/a>. \u2014 Abbr. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>RICO<\/em><\/span>. <\/strong>[1]<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>1.
