An estate held by two more more persons jointly, with equal rights to share in its enjoyment during their lives, and having as its distinguishing feature the right of survivorship, or jus accrescendi, by virtue of which the entire estate, upon the death of a joint tenant, goes to the survivor (or, in the case of more than two joint tenants, to the survivors, and so on to the last survivor), free and exempt from all charges made by his deceased cotenant or cotenants in which he did not concur.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #800000;\">20 Am J2d Coten \u00a7 3<\/span>.<\/strong> [2]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>1. An estate in land (EXAMPLES: a fee simple estate; a life estate; an estate for years) or in personal property (EXAMPLE: a savings account) held by two or more persons jointly, with equal rights to share in its enjoyment.\u00a0 The most important feature of a joint tenancy is the right to survivorship, which means that upon the death of a joint tenant the entire estate goes tot eh survivor (or, in the case of more than two joint tenants, to the survivors, and so on to the last survivor).<\/strong> [3]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0 Excerpt from A.C.
