At the outset of a trial, an advocate\u2019s statement giving the fact-finder a preview of the case and of the evidence to be presented.\u00a0 *\u00a0 Although the opening statement is not supposed to b argumentative, lawyers, \u2014 purposefully or not \u2014 often include some form of argument.\u00a0 The term is thus sometimes referred to as <\/strong>opening argument<\/span>.<\/strong> <\/em>\u2014 <\/em>aka<\/span> opening address<\/strong><\/em><\/span>.
